Move!

One of my pet peeves is the interrupted commute. I hate stopping on my way to work for anything. And I REALLY hate stopping on my way home for anything. I don't really know why, except for the lost time I suppose. It's never a 5 minute stop. It always seems fraught with delays, inconveniences, etc. Usually it's just stopping for gas, which is still a pain since there are few gas stations between home and work and those few are all in rough neighborhoods. Sometimes it's groceries on the way home. Yesterday, it was both gas AND groceries. Doh! My 30 minute trip just turned into 2 hours. And the grocery store at 6:30? Fugettaboutit. The checkout lines were all going into the aisles. I picked the shortest one, which quickly turned into the longest wait of all. The lady in front had purchased $216.58 in stuff, which had completely filled the checkout lane and then some. This she paid for with $215.00 in food stamps. Ah, but what about the $1.58? Seems she didn't have it. She rooted around her purse for 5 minutes and came up with $0.75. She offered to go to her car and look for the remainder at which point my patience FINALLY gave out (No small feat as I am known for my extreme patience) and I dropped a dollar on the counter for her. She was very grateful although I can claim no desire to do goodwill for her. I just wanted her OUT OF MY WAY. I'm such a good Christian.
