No thanks, I've had enough empathy tonight

So, how are you supposed to feel when someone you don't really know, but have talked to in the halls, given a jump to her car, and made casual aqcuaintance with, dies? This is the situation we are currently in. We just found out one of our neighbors in the condo complex, (a condo we are renting and will be happy to ditch in favor of an actual brick and mortar house) and a relatively young woman at that, died last sunday. We only found out by a random viewing of the obituaries, which prompted a quick search of the local school where she taught. It's a little weird. We always chuckled a bit at her flakiness, even affectionately dubbed her 'crazy downstairs lady', but she was always pleasant enough and friendly enough. I find it weird that no one seems to have a reason either. Usually, don't the obits say, 'car accident', or 'hemmorage', or 'spontaneous combustion' or SOMETHING? It actually bother me a little, making me confront mortality and such. I'm realizing how lucky I am to have Staz and how I don't know what I would do if I were suddenly not to. Fun thoughts huh? But better than my preoccupation with a local couple a few weeks ago who were the victims of a very violent and perverse crime, which took place at a popular gathering place not far from here which we tend to frequent. I kept imagining what that would be like had it been us, how there but for the grace of God...well, you know. Maybe I'm just getting too sensitive. Must remember to dial into my inner cynic more often.
